The Brief

The college sought to appoint a Director of Teaching, Learning and Professional Practice (P–12) to lead the strategic direction, development, and evaluation of teaching and learning programmes across the organisation. The role required a leader who could unify pedagogical practice, embed consistency, and drive innovation in curriculum delivery, while modelling best practice and integrating Christian faith into all aspects of their work.

 

The Process

A detailed briefing was held with key members of the college executive, including the Principal, Head of Junior School, Director of Curriculum, and Acting Director of Professional Learning. The Future Leadership™ team facilitated stakeholder meetings to gather insights from across the college, using action research methodology to triangulate feedback and identify themes. The Selection Committee comprised senior leaders from the college, and the process included both internal and external candidates.

The ideal candidate for the Director of Teaching and Learning position will demonstrate strong educational leadership and presence, with a deep understanding of learning and teaching across the P–12 spectrum. This individual will possess collaborative skills that empower staff and effectively bridge both junior and secondary contexts. The preferred leadership style is relational, authentic, and student-centred, fostering trust and engagement throughout the college community. Experience in respected educational institutions and postgraduate study is highly regarded, as is the ability to model best practice and contribute meaningfully to the wider educational community.

The Outcome

The search was conducted nationally, targeting high-calibre candidates from similar organisations and leveraging Future Leadership™’s networks and databases. Both internal and external candidates were considered, with interviews and assessments against rigorous selection criteria. The successful appointee will report directly to the Principal, work closely with the Head of Junior School and Director of Curriculum. The appointment of the Director of Teaching, Learning and Professional Practice (P–12) marks a significant step in the college’s strategic evolution. The new leader is tasked with refining the teaching and learning framework, embedding consistency, and fostering a culture of pedagogical excellence and innovation.
