Appointing a Principal and CEO committed to advancing transformative learning, holistic wellbeing, and inspirational leadership within a highly regarded Independent School in Adelaide
The Brief
Following the planned departure of a long‑serving Principal & CEO after an impactful eight‑year tenure, the governing Board of a leading Independent School sought to appoint a new leader to guide the next phase of strategic and cultural development. With enrolments at an all‑time high and the organisation in a strong financial position, the Board required a contemporary educational leader capable of advancing the Strategic Plan while honouring the institution’s heritage and values.
The ideal appointee would bring a forward‑thinking approach to educational delivery, embrace diverse learning environments, and demonstrate a genuine commitment to community engagement. They needed to be an inclusive and inspiring leader with the capacity to challenge, nurture and motivate both staff and students. Experience in the education sector and an understanding of domestic and international boarding were essential.
The Process
Future Leadership was selected to conduct the executive search following a detailed proposal and presentation to the Board. Liz Jones led a high‑touch process that included comprehensive on‑site briefings, weekly update conversations with the Board Chair, and dedicated administration support, ensuring consistent communication throughout.
The search strategy combined outreach to trusted networks, targeted research across the sector, and national print advertising to attract a diverse and high‑quality field. Two rounds of panel interviews were facilitated on campus. The second round included meetings with key stakeholder groups such as the Senior Leadership Team, students, and community representatives. Final candidates participated in a Board presentation, followed by an informal dinner with partners and Council members to support holistic assessment and cultural alignment.
The Outcome
The appointment resulted in the selection of an experienced, collaborative, and inclusive leader with a strong background in Independent Schools. The successful candidate demonstrated commercial acumen, a deep connection to future‑focused education, and a commitment to wellbeing as a central pillar of their leadership. They commenced in an initial Principal‑elect capacity before formally transitioning into the role at the start of the following year.
