The Brief

Future Leadership™ was engaged by a national aged care provider operating across two states to appoint an Executive Director People & Culture. This existing senior leadership position was designed to lead the organisation’s people strategy during a period of significant growth and transformation.
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the Executive Director would be responsible for workforce planning, industrial relations, and organisational development. The role also included oversight of a 30–40 person People & Culture team, including eight Business Partners and a centralised payroll function.
The organisation had recently improved staff engagement following the pandemic and was investing in initiatives such as a scholarship fund and leadership development. The appointee would play a key role in aligning workforce strategy with the organisation’s goal to double its revenue and workforce within five years.

The Process

Future Leadership™ undertook a comprehensive national search across Australia and New Zealand, targeting candidates from aged care, health, NFP, and adjacent sectors. The search strategy included:
  • Briefing with the CEO to understand strategic priorities.
  • Online advertising and outreach to candidates from recent similar assignments.
  • Consideration of internal candidates.
Candidates were assessed using Hogan Personality Inventory and Hogan Development Survey, with psychologist reports aligned to Future Leadership™ capabilities. Panel interviews included senior executives and board members, with candidates presenting on strategic workforce planning.
This rigorous process ensured the appointment of a candidate capable of leading cultural transformation and workforce expansion.

The Outcome

A highly experienced professional with a strong background in industrial relations, stakeholder engagement, and organisational development was appointed as Executive Director People & Culture, commencing in early 2025.
Their expertise in leading teams, navigating change, and aligning people strategy with organisational growth will enhance the organisation’s ability to deliver its vision and expand its impact across the sector.
