Our team was pleased to partner with a premier business education institute in the appointment of its new Academic Dean.

This key executive role provides leadership and strategic direction to their integrated academic portfolio, promoting the institute as a quality provider of internationally accredited higher education and engaging with relevant regulators and colleagues sector-wide. With a focus on continuous improvement, the role will ensure a highly contemporary approach to leading teaching and learning, ensuring delivery is focused on the quality of teaching, assessment, and the student journey.

The Process

Our research for this key position included outreach to our existing networks and detailed mapping of academic leaders in the business discipline in Australia and New Zealand.

An online advertising campaign supported search activities and candidates were interviewed by Future Leadership consultants to assess capabilities and cultural fit. A close partnership with the institute’s Chief Executive Officer ensured ongoing calibration of the developing field.

The Outcome

Bringing over 30 years’ leadership experience in national and international education, a senior educational leader was appointed to this important position.

The Matthew Flinders Distinguished Emeritus Professor in the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences, his academic background is as a geographer and he has previously held multiple leadership roles at Flinders University. Additionally, he brings extensive experience in leading professional and membership organisations and is a current director of an accreditation Board and a health care insurance board too. More than a decade ago, he also received the Prime Minister’s award for Australian University Teacher of the Year and has subsequently accepted numerous significant Australian and international awards and fellowships for contributions to higher education, geography, and professional service.
