Date Posted:4 June 2026

Delivering an Executive Search to appoint a Chief Executive Officer to lead strategic transformation for a for-purpose organisation and a Residential College

The Brief

Future Leadership™ was engaged by a for-purpose residential college and community organisation in New South Wales to appoint a Chief Executive Officer during a period of strategic uncertainty and transition. The organisation operates both accommodation services and a broader community programming function, with funding from the residential offering supporting its mission-driven activities. The Board was considering the long-term viability and future direction of the college alongside broader strategic questions, influenced in part by external planning factors. Given this context, the incoming Chief Executive Officer required the ability to lead through complexity, balance commercial and social objectives, and reposition the organisation towards greater impact in the for-purpose sector.

The Process

Future Leadership™ undertook a comprehensive search process tailored to the organisation’s need for a commercially astute and strategically capable leader able to navigate uncertainty and transformation.

Key steps included:
• Briefing and Strategy Development: Engaged with Board leadership and key stakeholders to understand the organisation’s structure, strategic challenges, and future direction.
• Targeted Candidate Search: Leveraged extensive networks, proprietary databases, advertising campaigns, and referral channels to identify high calibre candidates with senior leadership experience across professional services and for-purpose sectors.
• Candidate Assessment: Shortlisted candidates were assessed against the Future Leadership Capability Framework, with final candidates undertaking psychometric evaluation including Hogan assessments.
• Market Engagement: Activated a multi-channel campaign including digital platforms and targeted outreach, alongside consideration of internal and referred candidates.
• Final Evaluation: Preferred candidates progressed through structured interviews with the Board and stakeholder representatives to assess organisational fit and leadership capability.

The Outcome

The process resulted in a structured and rigorous assessment of senior executive candidates aligned to the organisation’s strategic and operational requirements.
The disciplined search approach ensured alignment between candidate capability and the organisation’s evolving direction, supporting the appointment of a Chief Executive Officer with the necessary strategic mindset, commercial acumen, and stakeholder engagement capability to lead through a complex period of decision-making and transformation.
