The Position
The Community Broadcasting Foundation is seeking its next President following the announced retirement of Ian Hamm in mid 2025, who has been outstanding as President and Chair for the past six years.
The dedicated Board of the Community Broadcasting Foundation provides direction for organisational objectives, policy and practice. Volunteer Board members dedicate their time and wealth of experience to enhance community media and the work of the organisation. It is estimated that the President’s time commitment will be up to one day per week over any year. The appointment is for a maximum of three 3-year terms.
The position requires national representation, stakeholder liaison across government, media, industry and NFP sectors, philanthropy awareness-raising, engagement and support and governance across the activities of the Community Broadcasting Foundation.
The ideal profile will be an experienced Board Director or Chair, with exemplary negotiation and communication skills, who has a passion for and knowledge of the media, arts and the role of community media. A background in the public sector or political leadership, media, arts or philanthropy will equip you well for this national high-profile position.
The Organisation
Community Broadcasting Foundation (CBF) are proud champions of community broadcasting – Australia’s largest independent media sector.
Each year the CBF receives funding from the Australian Government’s Community Broadcasting Program to redistribute in grants to community media organisations, content producers and sector organisations. Every year, CBF distribute more than $20 million in funding to strengthen and support over 450 community broadcasting services across Australia to communicate, connect and share knowledge with their communities through radio, television and digital media. This included First Nations, ethnic, LGBTIQ+ and print-disabled Australians, as well as others in their communities who are underrepresented in other media. CBF funding helps to connect people across the country, including over 5 million people who tune-in to their local radio station weekly.
Collaboration and partnership are central to the way CBF work, building on decades of strong relationships and expertise. Together with community broadcasters, content producers and sector organisations around the country, CBF are helping to build a thriving, impactful and resilient future for community media.
