The Position
Latrobe Regional Health (LRH) seeks to appoint a high calibre professional to the role of Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to provide leadership and oversight of the medical services division at LRH.
Reporting to the Chief Executive, the CMO will work closely with the Deputy Chief Medical Officer and the General Manager Medical Services and will be an integral member of the executive team. With a focus on developing the medical workforce, the CMO will provide high level medical advice and support, with responsibility for clinical governance, professional standards, continuous improvement, and patient safety.
The successful candidate will be a dynamic and highly credible leader and clinician, with well-defined experience gained in mid to large metropolitan or regional health services. Equipped with proven experience in medical administration and high-level leadership and engagement skills, they will demonstrate a person-centred approach to evidence-based care and an understanding of contemporary issues impacting regional and rural health services. Strong interpersonal, negotiation and written communication skills will combine with a values based, open and approachable leadership style. The appointee will demonstrate the capability to be flexible and adapt to changing circumstances in addition to the ability to act with integrity on sensitive organisational matters. Together with a mandatory MBBS or equivalent and current practicing registration with AHPRA, the successful candidate must be a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators (RACMA) or have progressed substantially towards this qualification.
The Organisation
Latrobe Regional Health (LRH) is located 150km east of Melbourne at Traralgon West and is recognised as the regional provider of specialist health services in Gippsland. LRH has more than 300 beds and cares for a population of more than 290,000. The catchment covers about 42,000 square kilometres from Phillip Island to Mallacoota in the far east.
LRH provides cardiac care, surgery, medical, renal, emergency care, aged care, women’s and children’s services, pharmacy, allied health and rehabilitation. Medical and radiation oncology are offered by the Gippsland Cancer Care Centre on site.
