The Position
The Director Legal, Risk and Compliance and General Counsel is responsible for providing legal advice to the Board, CEO and the Executive Management Team, as well as having strategic input into the delivery of the organisation’s strategic objectives and ensuring all activities of the organisation are conducted within the limits prescribed by law and that the organisation’s rights are protected.
This role will oversee all compliance and risk management activities and offer legal counsel to the Board, CEO, and Executive Management Team. In collaboration with the Board and Executive, you will also play a key role in shaping and guiding the organisation’s strategic legal direction.
You will head the board secretary function, offering guidance on best practices in corporate governance, legal duties of directors, Victorian Government requirements, board reporting and disclosure obligations, and proper meeting procedures
You will be an organisational leader with a proven track record in enhancing team capability and managing change. You will excel at collaborating with both external and internal stakeholders to achieve impactful results.
You will have:
- Demonstrated experience five plus years’ working in in-house legal practice and exposure to property law would be an advantage
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the appropriate interpretation and implementation of relevant legislation and associated regulations, guidelines, policies and practices preferably within a large and complex organisation
- Demonstrated experience across governance regulations, compliance and risk management
- A tertiary qualification in law is essential, as well as holding a current Practising Certificate in Victoria. Post admission experience of 15+ years is highly desirable.

Parks Victoria is responsible for managing a diverse estate of more than 4 million hectares including 3,000 land and marine parks and reserves making up 18% of Victoria’s landmass, 75% of Victoria’s wetlands and 70% of Victoria’s coastline.
