The Position
ACER undertakes research and development and promotes effective, research-informed policies and practices to improve learning and educational outcomes. The organisation has a clear objective to have a significant influence on educational policy and practice, particularly in the countries in which it operates to impact student outcomes. ACER now seeks to appoint an Executive Director of Marketing, Communications and Media to help shape and promote ACER’s image and profile nationally and internationally.
The Executive Director is a member of the Senior Executive Group and holds a strategic role within ACER, working to grow the company’s impact in Australia and globally. The position will support the growth of the ACER brand and its global mission, influence educational policy, and enhance relationships with schools, systems and senior government officials. The development of a clear and coherent communications and advocacy agenda will be critical to achieving organisational goals and building the brand, so that ACER is the go-to platform for information. The Executive Director leads all Marketing, Communications and Media management in Australia and supports communications staff and opportunities in global offices. The Executive Director will lead and manage a team to deliver services including internal and external communications, brand management, website and online services, public relations, marketing, media strategy and management, and relationship management.
The successful candidate will be a strong partner to the CEO, Global Companies, Executive and Research Directors. As a critical contributor to how the organisation grows the appointee will be tenacious in their approach, with the ability to manage both tactical and strategic directives. Demonstrating strong stakeholder management skills, combined with a proactive approach to advocacy, the appointee will bring an understanding of how to engage and work within the political landscape. Experience in commercialising opportunities combined with an entrepreneurial spirit that drives innovation will ensure success. The successful candidate will utilise exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to engage at all levels to lead and develop a team of communications, creative and technical professionals. Prior experience within the education sector is desirable, with strong transferable skills from other aligned sectors, including government, highly regarded.
