The Opportunity
The APC is seeking an Independent Chair who will be a person of the utmost integrity with the ability to consider competing views and interests while maintaining their independence. The Independent Chair leads the Council which further comprises Public Members, including Independent Vice Chair(s) with no affiliation with any media organisation, Independent Journalist Members, Constituent Members nominated by publishers of newspapers, magazines and online media.
Expectations for Independent Chair Candidates
High quality candidates will have successful experience as a Chair in a multi-stakeholder environment. They have an understanding of the issues facing the print and online media and associated community concerns. At a personal level, they will have a calm demeanour and demonstrate a strong sense of judgement and political nous. In accordance with the APC’s Constitution, the Chair will be appointed by the Council from persons who have not had previous connections involving ownership of, or employment by, the media.

The APC is also the principal body with responsibility for responding to complaints about Australian newspapers, magazines and associated digital outlets, and online-only news publications.
