The Position

Glen Eira City Council is seeking an exceptional Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to continue to provide highly valued services, facilities, support and advocacy for the benefit and wellbeing of residents, ratepayers, businesses, community groups and visitors. This will be delivered by leading the strong and capable executive team and empowering a large, diverse and highly engaged workforce.

The CEO will bring a track record of driving results and accountability, strategic and change agility, customer first mindset, creative thinking, financial depth and inspirational people leadership.

Placing community needs and a placed-based approach at the centre, the CEO will advocate to government stakeholders and invite genuine community consultation and engagement. The CEO also plays an important role in promoting a positive culture of good governance, risk management and transparent decision making.

The successful appointee will collaborate with an engaged Councillor group working well together and committed to delivering in the best interests of the municipal community. They will provide expert support to the Mayor and Councillors in driving the implementation of the next four-year Glen Eira City Council Plan which will set the strategic directions, priorities and response to financial sustainability challenges and opportunities.

The reputation of Glen Eira City Council is ‘second to none’, and this opportunity will be one of the most sought out Local Government roles in Australia. With this opportunity comes the need for the incoming CEO to be highly impactful and influential to drive continued innovation and contemporary service excellence with tangible community benefits.

Success in this role requires an impactful leader with a significant record of achievement at CEO or senior executive level in a service-orientated, multi-disciplinary organisation with a strong purpose-driven commitment.

The CEO will need to show a genuine commitment to the organisation’s core values of service excellence, respect, innovation, integrity and collaboration.

The Organisation

Glen Eira City Council has achieved great successes in supporting the creation of highly liveable and resilient communities, where there is a pride of place. With revenues over $200 million, more than 120 services are delivered through a multi-skilled workforce of approximately 750 FTE. Council has achieved high levels of community satisfaction along with strong staff engagement levels.

The City is located approximately ten kilometres southeast of Melbourne’s Central Business District. Glen Eira has a thriving local economy, supported by commercial precincts along main roads, education and health facilities and home businesses. Features of economic and social significance include Caulfield Racecourse Reserve, Monash University, the Melbourne Holocaust Museum, Rippon Lea Estate and Caulfield Park. It is home for people from more than 160 cultural backgrounds.

The organisation has developed a Good Governance Framework, which is a valuable resource for the community, Councillors and Glen Eira staff to build a practical understanding of governance processes.

The vacancy will occur following well-planned transition arrangements with the existing CEO.
