The Brief

Future Leadership™ was engaged by a public vocational education provider in South Australia to appoint a Chief Executive Officer to lead a major transformation initiative. The appointment followed two strategic reviews and the launch of a government-backed reform program aimed at repositioning the institution as a benchmark in public training provision. The CEO was expected to deliver transformational change, enhance compliance and quality, and rebuild stakeholder trust.

Following two strategic reviews in 2018, a major transformation initiative titled A Fresh Start for the organisation was launched by Government. The initiative aimed to reposition the state’s public vocational education provider as a benchmark institution aligned with quality, student choice, and industry needs. Transitional funding was allocated to support structural adjustment and reform.

The Process

Future Leadership™ undertook a comprehensive search process tailored to the organisation’s transformation goals.

Key steps included:

  • Briefing and Strategy Development: Engaged with government and board stakeholders to understand the strategic priorities and transformation objectives.
  • Targeted Candidate Search: Conducted national advertising and outreach across the vocational education and training (VET) sector, leveraging referral networks.
  • Candidate Assessment: Shortlisted candidates underwent panel interviews and formal assessments.
  • Final Evaluation: Final referencing and offer negotiations were managed to ensure a seamless appointment.
