The Position

The City of Boroondara is seeking to appoint an outstanding Director Community Services to lead a diverse and highly impactful portfolio of social and community services that fosters equity, connectedness and inclusion.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Director Community Services is a member of a high performing executive team that is values aligned, collegiate and committed to the highest standards of good governance. This position plays a pivotal role in advancing organisational-wide priorities and championing enterprise strategic initiatives.

The position provides visionary leadership to four community facing teams; Arts, Culture and Economic Development, Community Development, Health and Wellbeing Services, and Library Services. With responsibility for a workforce of more than 300 staff, the role ensures services are integrated, accessible and centred on delivering a seamless, empowering and positive experience for customers.

The successful appointee will bring an exceptional record of senior leadership within local government or a related community‑focused environment, with demonstrated success in:

  • Collaborative and contemporary service delivery
  • Strategic planning and organisational change
  • Innovation in response to evolving community needs
  • Authentic stakeholder engagement across government, community and partner organisations

Highly developed interpersonal, negotiation and financial acumen are essential, along with an uncompromising commitment to customer excellence and community outcomes. You will be a visible, credible and values‑led executive who balances strategic foresight with operational discipline.

It is located on the traditional lands of the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung people.
