The Position
Reporting to the Group Executive Director, SCSS, the Executive Director, Workforce leads a substantial, multi-disciplinary workforce function responsible for delivering strategic and operational HR services across the portfolio.
This is a significant executive opportunity to shape workforce performance across one of South Australia’s most complex health service portfolios, working at the intersection of strategy, operations and stakeholder engagement, and directly influencing the delivery of critical services to the community.
The role oversees:
- Workforce strategy, planning and reform
- Industrial relations, enterprise bargaining and employee relations
- Organisational development, capability and culture
- Workforce governance, policy and performance
Working in close partnership with the CALHN People & Culture function and the SCSS Executive team, this role is central to ensuring aligned, high-performing workforce practices across five diverse service streams.
We are seeking an experienced executive workforce leader with a track record in complex, service-driven organisations.
You will bring:
- Proven experience leading large-scale HR/workforce functions in unionised, multi-stakeholder environments
- Deep capability in industrial relations, negotiation and workforce risk management
- Strong credibility with clinical leaders, executives, unions and government stakeholders
- The ability to build alignment and deliver outcomes across diverse, distributed service environments
- A pragmatic approach, combining strategic insight with operational delivery.
Experience within healthcare or similarly regulated public sector environments will be highly regarded.

Statewide Clinical Support Services (SCSS) is a cornerstone of SA Health, delivering critical statewide services that underpin care across all Local Health Networks.
SCSS comprises a diverse portfolio of specialist services, including:
- SA Pathology – one of the largest and most specialised scientific workforces in the system
- SA Medical Imaging (SAMI) – complex, capital-intensive services with ongoing workforce supply challenges
- SA Pharmacy – statewide clinical and supply services in a highly regulated environment
- SA Dental – community and specialist dental services undergoing modernisation
