The Brief

Future Leadership™ was engaged to partner with this mid-sized aged care provider following the resignation of the previous CEO. The Board sought to appoint a strategic, innovative and inspiring CEO. The remit was certainly to drive growth to underpin sustainability and drive continuous improvement whilst optimising care and service offerings. It was important to the Board that in pursuing this growth, the CEO would position the organisation as a leader in aged care excellence, while maintaining the warmth, personal connection and community spirit that are central to the organisation’s identity.

The Process

The Consultant team for the assignment, led by Deborah Komesaroff, undertook a detailed briefing with the Board Chair and a Board Director to identify what success in the role would look like and what an key attributes an ideal candidate would possess.

Leveraging previous CEO searches we had undertaken, including for Jewish Care Victoria, Possability, St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne and Royal Freemasons, Future Leadership™ prepared a strong list of commercially oriented leaders. We proactively approached leaders with proven experience identifying, assessing and driving merger and acquisition opportunities as well as having driven performance excellence and innovation. We attracted significant interest and presented a shortlist that was of exceedingly high calibre.

Future Leadership™ hosted the panel interviews at our office, undertook full referencing and supported our client through final negotiations.

Key steps included:

  • Targeted Search and Talent Pooling: Future Leadership™ conducted a comprehensive search process targeting potential candidates within the sector.
  • Comprehensive Shortlisting: Our client was presented with a shortlist of highly qualified candidates with exceptional experience.
  • Panel Interviews and Strategic Presentation: The Future Leadership™ team worked closely with the client to complete panel interviews, plus full referencing and required probity checking to confirm an appointment.

The Outcome

Following panel interviews, which ensured optimal alignment of fit between candidates and the organisation, an appointment was made with the successful incumbent commencing in the role on 1 July 2025.

Bringing more than 35 years of senior leadership experience, including 25 years in the healthcare and aged care sectors, the successful appointee had previously held executive roles in large corporate organisations as well as for-purpose entities, with leadership responsibilities across Australia and internationally. Their strategic and operational expertise has supported more than $2 billion in healthcare investments over their career. They also presented with experience across a full spectrum of services — from health funding to primary care, hospitals, and aged care — and is genuinely passionate about improving the quality of life for older Australians.
