The Brief

Future Leadership was engaged by a State Government Education Department to appoint their next Deputy Director General, Schools and Deputy Director General Education, Business Services.

The DDG Schools role you will drive excellence in education across the states public school system and support schools and regions to meet the needs of all students through implementing the Department’s strategic initiatives.

The DDG Education, Business Services role will drive excellence and reform across business services for the public education system in the state.

The Process

The Future Leadership team, represented by Jenny Ethell and Larissa Langley undertook a comprehensive search process tailored to the Departments needs.

The Future Leadership Team undertook a comprehensive briefing with the states Deputy Director General, Student Achievement to gain insight and a deep understanding of the positions. They conveyed the specific backgrounds to each position, along with the desired skills, experience and characteristics of the ideal candidates.

Future Leadership undertook behavioural based interviews, managed panel interviews for both roles as well as reference checking, required probity checks and offer negotiation.

The Outcome

Following a 3 month process Future Leadership placed successful candidates in both roles.

The successful candidate for the DDG, Schools role is an accomplished and experienced educational leader who possesses highly advanced leadership capabilities; in strategic and systems thinking and managing complexity and ambiguity in a nuanced manner. They are very excited about the future for Education in the state under the new leadership and the strategic priorities that have been set for next year.

The Successful candidate for the DDG Education, Business Services role is a transformational public sector leader with over 21 years of experience in senior executive roles across large and complex government organisations in the state. Having previously held the role from 2015 to 2019, they are eager to bring a more experienced perspective and adopt a different approach to the role this time around.
