The Brief

Future Leadership™ was engaged by a privately owned agricultural equipment group headquartered in regional Victoria to appoint a Chief Financial Officer (CFO). With a network of 15 branches across Victoria and South Australia, the organisation is a recognised leader in delivering integrated machinery and farming solutions to broadacre, viticulture, horticulture, and grounds care sectors.

Reporting to the Managing Director, based in regional Victoria and working in partnership with the Chief Operations Officer, the CFO is a key member of the Executive Leadership Team and is responsible for the oversight of all finance, accounting, sales administration, people, safety, special projects, and business strategy.

The appointment required a forward thinking executive with deep financial expertise, strong governance capability, and the ability to lead transformation across corporate services. The CFO would also play a critical role in shaping organisational culture, driving operational efficiency, and supporting regional growth.

The Process

Led by David Baber and Josh Mullens, the Future Leadership team undertook a targeted national search tailored to the organisation’s needs. Our strategy was designed to attract candidates with deep financial leadership expertise and strong sector alignment, while ensuring broad market coverage across South Australia, New South Wales, and Queensland.

A targeted candidate search was undertaken focussing on financially astute and commercially experienced individuals. The Future Leadership team reached out to a significant number of referral partners from our proprietary database to assist in identifying and recommending potential candidates. The search process was also supported by an online advertising campaign.

A shortlist of five highly experienced candidates including an internal candidate was presented to the clients Executive Leadership Team with four candidates progressing to panel interviews. Full reference and probity checks were completed prior to the final appointment.

The Outcome

The process resulted in the appointment of a highly experienced executive and finance leader with over fifteen years’ experience in delivering strategic growth, business transformations and operational excellence. The appointee resonated strongly with the organisations mission and their broad commercial acumen developed across multiple industries positions them well for success.
