The Brief

An Australian private health insurance provider sought to enhance its Leadership Development Program, known as Managing with Purpose, for 24 high-potential leaders each year.

Before commencing their learning journey, the organisation wanted each participant to undergo a comprehensive assessment process. The insights gained from this process would inform the development goals to focus on during the program.

The Process

Future Leadership partnered with the client to design an assessment methodology that provided participants with ‘stretch’ leadership experiences and simulations akin to a Day-in-the-Life of a Senior Manager. The methodology included the following data points:

  1. Psychometric Assessment: Online assessments of personality.
  2. In-Person Simulations: These included business case analysis, direct report coaching, and strategic presentations completed over one day.
  3. Learning and Self-Reflection: Sessions focused on individual learning and self-reflection.
  4. Active Feedback: Provided throughout the experience by assessors and peers.
  5. Individual Feedback Sessions: Practical development tips were provided to support participation in the Managing with Purpose program.

The program was delivered over one day, with data points mapped to the organisation’s Leadership Capability Framework, which included capabilities such as Future Orientation, Adaptability, Business Acumen, and Enterprise Thinking. A total of 24 participants took part in the program in 2018 and again in 2019.

The Outcome

The Head of Organisation Development (People and Culture) praised the program’s smooth execution and effective organisation. Following the program’s success, Future Leadership was asked to create a Development Guide with experiential development activities and resources for the client’s leaders. Future Leadership now works with the client to assess 120 leaders per year as part of the Launch Plus program, providing ongoing development support.
