The Brief

Future Leadership™ was engaged by a local government authority to design and deliver a targeted leadership development program for coordinators and people leaders. The engagement followed an earlier, targeted program delivered for the Senior Leadership Team and was designed to strengthen leadership capability at the coordinator level while improving connection across leadership layers.

Operating within a complex and highly visible public sector environment, the organisation was experiencing increasing service demand, workforce change and heightened community expectations. Coordinators sat at a critical junction between strategy and service delivery, balancing operational accountability with growing people leadership responsibilities.
Despite the importance of this cohort, leadership capability had developed inconsistently over time. Coordinators lacked a shared leadership framework, clear expectations and access to structured development. This was impacting confidence, consistency and effectiveness in people leadership practices.
The organisation sought a practical, values‑aligned program that would build leadership confidence, strengthen people leadership capability and support a more consistent leadership culture. The Senior Leadership Team played an important role in the program, delivering key elements and reinforcing leadership expectations across the organisation.

The Process

Future Leadership designed Axis, a tailored leadership development program grounded in the organisation’s context, leadership priorities and public sector realities.

Key steps included:

• Discovery and diagnostics: Engagement with senior stakeholders and key contributors to understand the organisational context, leadership challenges and expectations placed on coordinators.

• Program co-design: Development of a structured leadership program aligned to public sector leadership demands, organisational values and the practical, day-to-day challenges faced by coordinator-level leaders.

• Program delivery: Delivered through leader-led facilitated workshops and applied learning activities, enabling participants to reflect on their leadership approach, build self-awareness and practise new skills in role.

• Evaluation and reflection: Collection of participant feedback and reflections to assess relevance, confidence uplift and practical application of learning in the workplace.
