The Brief
An independent school engaged with Future Leadership to support them in identifying and appointing a new Principal. The School Board sought an exceptional leader and relationship builder with significant experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating programs for students beyond mainstream education. With knowledge of contemporary trends in experiential and inquiry-based learning, the new Principal would be expected to maintain the current high standards of excellence in Montessori education and promote future learning. Following a period of expansion and transformation, the School identified the need for a Principal who would bring stability and drive community engagement.
The Process
Initial discussions with the Board identified that engagement from staff and the community would be critical throughout the appointment process. Future Leadership conducted an initial briefing workshop with the Principal Transition Committee, followed by one-on-one stakeholder meetings with senior staff and the Head of the Parent’s Association. These meetings provided critical information to inform the search process in terms of not only skills and experience but also cultural fit. A targeted search process was undertaken, expanding on Future Leadership’s network of known referral partners and candidates. The search process was supported by a print and online advertising campaign. A full candidate information pack was developed to highlight and promote the position to potential candidates, encouraging them to have a further conversation with the Future Leadership team.
The Outcome
At the time of submitting this proposal, Future Leadership was commencing initial interviews with a view to presenting a qualified list to the school at the beginning of July and for an appointment to be confirmed in early August. The goal was to ensure that the new Principal would champion the Montessori method and lead the school into its next phase of growth and development.
