Associate Professor Michael Ben-Meir has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) and will commence on 1 September 2024. In this position, Michael will provide effective and proactive leadership to the RFDS Victoria to ensure it delivers on strategic priorities and objectives aimed at breaking down barriers to accessing healthcare, wellbeing support and social connection.
Michael is an experienced healthcare leader and emergency physician in the private and public sector with a broad and diverse set of capabilities, successes, and interests who has a passion for innovative solutions to complex healthcare problems. He is a strategic thinker with a clear understanding of the complexity, issues and opportunities in the healthcare sector and a diverse and broad set of connections and relationships to enable delivery of innovative plans and projects.
Michael has been a member of the RFDS Board for four years and has a deep understanding, respect, and admiration for the service. He will begin as CEO after having held the position of Director, Austin Hospital Emergency Department with Austin Health since 2020. Prior to his position with Austin Health, Michael was the ED Director and Director of Medical Services (Diagnostics and Pharmacy) with Cabrini Hospital.
