Appointed: Dr. Frederico Calhabeu
Position: Director of Cell and Gene Therapy

Dr. Frederico Calhabeu has been appointed as Director of Cell and Gene Therapy with BioCurate and commenced on 24 June 2024. In this position, Frederico will work closely with the Executive Director of R&D to actively develop and manage the current projects within the portfolio that BioCurate has invested in, and lead the assessment, evaluation, and selection of new project opportunities, with a specific focus on Cell and Gene Therapy.
Frederico has over 20 years of experience in the fields of Stem Cell biology, Regenerative Medicine and Oncology, through positions in academia and industry. He has gained experience in leading different team sizes as well as leading early-stage and preclinical research programs to develop Regenerative Medicine and Anticancer therapeutics. During his academic career, he has taken particular interest in developing innovative cell and gene therapies to treat common muscle disorders.
Frederico joins Biocurate after having held the Acting position of Chief Translational Officer at Cartherics where he led a research team translating discoveries in immune cell therapies for cancer. Prior to that, he has held the positions of Deputy Translational Officer, Head of Preclinical studies and before that, Senior Research Fellow- induced Pluripotent Stem Cells (iPSCs) and Cancer Immunotherapy.
