
Dr Peter Steer has been appointed to the position of Chief Executive Officer with the Royal Children’s Hospital and will commence his role on 3 March 2025. Leading this iconic health service, Peter will be responsible to the Board for the strategic and operational performance of the hospital. In a continually evolving healthcare environment, he will build on RCH’s reputation to ensure the hospital is not only the leading paediatric hospital in Australia, but also recognised and respected internationally.
A paediatrician with a strong focus on research, Peter brings extensive Australian and international experience to his role at the RCH. Previously, He served as CEO of Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, President of McMaster Children’s Hospital in Canada, and as CEO of Children’s Health Queensland.
Most recently, Peter has been the Group Chief Executive of Mater Misericordiae Ltd in Brisbane. He has led Mater’s services across Queensland, a not-for-profit ministry of Mercy Partners which brings together a range of critical services across health, education and research.
