Future Leadership is delighted to announce the appointment of Liam Smith as Head of Senior Years at John XXIII College.
Liam brings a wealth of experience in educational leadership, student wellbeing, and academic excellence, underpinned by a deep commitment to faith-based and inclusive practice. Since 2024, Liam has served as Assistant Deputy Principal at John XXIII College, where he has played a key role in the Secondary Leadership Team, overseeing pastoral care structures, wellbeing programmes, and academic tracking for senior students. His leadership has focused on ensuring that every student is known, supported, and challenged through proactive mentoring, targeted academic and career pathways, and the creation of a safe, values-driven learning environment.
Liam’s responsibilities have included oversight of the Homeroom systems, policy development within the pastoral care framework, and leadership of both academic and support staff. He has contributed to shaping a culture of Cura Personalis through initiatives such as the Positive Peer Relations Framework and the Caring Behaviour Policy, as well as delivering strategic wellbeing events and supporting WACE tracking and course counselling for students and families.
Prior to joining John XXIII College, Liam held senior leadership roles at Holy Cross College and Mercedes College, where he led curriculum development, staff capacity building, and major school initiatives. His experience has honed his strategic acumen and affirmed his capacity to lead across diverse school contexts.
Liam’s vision for the senior years is to see them not merely as preparation for exams, but as a transformative journey where students discern their gifts, develop resilience, and emerge as young adults committed to making a difference in the world. He is excited to contribute to college leadership through the Executive, Secondary, and Academic teams, and to continue fostering an environment where every student is supported to flourish academically, spiritually, and personally.
