Charles Sturt University is the largest regionally based university in Australia, enrolling more than 43,000 students from across Australia and more than 120 countries around the world.  The University sought to appoint a new Chair to its Academic Senate, to manage its functions, ensuring compliance and contributing to the development, review and evaluation of academic policy and regulations.

Bringing over 30 years’ experience in Australian universities, with achievements in learning and teaching, research, governance and service, Professor Wilma Vialle has been appointed to this important position.  With longstanding research and teaching leadership in education, Wilma has led international portfolios at the University of Wollongong for over 10 years, including as Associate Dean International for the Faculty of Social Sciences, and since 2020, in a whole of university role.  She is the former Chair of the UOW Academic Senate (2014-20) and has been an active member of a number of other university panels and committees, in addition to editorial board memberships and membership of the academic boards of UOW Dubai and UOW Community College Hong Kong (2013-20).

Wilma is the recipient of an Outstanding Achievement in Education award from the Australian College of Educators and has been recognised as an Eminent Australian by the Australian Association for the Education of the Gifted and Talented.
