The Position
Merri-bek Council is seeking an exceptional Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to continue to deliver financial sustainability, high quality core services and facilities, community safety, care for nature and long-term sustainable development. This will be achieved through leading a well-established and capable executive team and further developing a customer focused, technology savvy, and diverse workforce.
The incoming CEO will proactively engage and support a collaborative Councillor group committed to the shared goals in the 2025-2029 Council Plan which will create a more connected, sustainable, and inclusive Merri-bek.
Preserving and celebrating the vibrant culture of the city, the CEO will advocate to government stakeholders and partners for better aged care services, transport and housing outcomes ensuring the community continues to flourish and builds resilience.
You will bring a track record in leading a large and diverse service delivery-focused organisation with a range of services and operations. High levels of financial acumen and influential stakeholder and advocacy skills are necessary. A comprehensive understanding and experience working in or with the government sector is expected.

- Celebrating the Fawkner Leisure Centre redevelopment ($36.8 million) and the new Balam Balam Place cultural hub ($30 million), and recently delivered vibrant spaces for community to enjoy.
- Remains focused on sustainability, delivering our Zero Carbon Action Plan 2020-25, supporting low-income households with solar and insulation grants, upgrading stormwater systems and planting over 2000 more trees.
