The Position
Penleigh and Essendon Grammar School (PEGS) seeks to appoint a dynamic and experienced executive to lead its business and financial operations as Director of Business and Finance. This pivotal role provides strategic and operational leadership across finance, facilities, catering, administration, risk and compliance, and statutory obligations, ensuring the effective and ethical stewardship of the School’s resources.
Reporting directly to the Principal and serving as Company Secretary to the School Board, the Director is a key member of the Senior Executive Team and leads a diverse team across multiple campuses. The appointee will contribute to whole-school strategic planning, support major capital works, and ensure the School’s financial sustainability and compliance with all regulatory requirements. The role also includes oversight of ICT systems supporting business operations, in consultation with the Deputy Principal and Principal to ensure ICT effectively supports teaching and learning objectives.
The successful candidate will be a collaborative and innovative leader with strong commercial acumen, exceptional interpersonal skills, and a deep understanding of financial governance in the education or not-for-profit sectors. The appointee will be ethical and future focussed, adopting contemporary practices to support sustainable development. With a demonstrated ability to lead complex business functions, the Director will foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement and build trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders. A CPA or ICAA accreditation (or equivalent senior experience) is essential, along with tertiary and postgraduate qualifications in finance, business or related fields.
