The Position

Albury Wodonga Health (AWH) is Australia’s only cross‑border public health service and is the largest within the Hume Local Health Service Network.  AWH is in a phase of significant transformation and there is a clear strategic direction with a focus on learning, safety and continuous improvement.

AWH is seeking to appoint an accomplished and values‑driven Executive Director Quality, Governance & Patient Experience & Chief of Nursing & Midwifery to join the executive leadership team. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, this critical role will provide strategic and professional leadership across clinical governance, quality and safety, risk, infection prevention, patient experience, and the nursing and midwifery workforce.

The Executive Director will lead the development and implementation of best practice clinical capability frameworks, clinical leadership pathways and advanced practice performance for nurses and midwives (1700).Working in close partnership with the executive and operational leadership teams, the Executive Director will drive contemporary models of care, strengthen workforce capability and succession, and embed a robust culture of clinical governance and accountability. With a broad portfolio, the Executive Director will be instrumental in shaping and delivering measurable improvements in patient safety, experience and outcomes, while supporting the organisation through ongoing transformation within a complex cross‑border operating environment.

As a visible, adaptable and influential executive leader, the successful candidate will foster a high‑performance, inclusive culture, champion nursing and midwifery leadership, and work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders including the Board, government, universities and regional partners. The incumbent will bring expertise to support and oversee safety and quality reporting for the Executive and Board and to various committees including clinical governance, quality and risk. The successful candidate will have a strong team focused approach and be passionate about building internal capability, including succession planning for future leaders. As a registered nurse or midwife of high integrity, the successful candidate will have the experience to support cultural change, and deliver safe, high-quality care through effective strategy, governance and workforce leadership. A Graduate Diploma or Masters qualification will be highly regarded.
