Agriculture Victoria Services Pty Ltd (AVS) is the commercial arm of the Victorian Government’s Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA) providing services to Agriculture Victoria Research.

Our purpose is simple and powerful: to unlock the unrealised value of Victoria’s agricultural innovation. We accelerate scientific discoveries into products and services that drive productivity, sustainability, and competitiveness for Victorian farmers.

At a time when agricultural resilience and innovation have never been more important, AVS plays a pivotal role in shaping the sector’s future.

Responsible to the Minister for Agriculture, the AVS Board leads the governance, strategic planning and risk management for this dynamic, impact-driven organisation. The Board comprises six directors, including the chairperson.

AVS is now seeking two exceptional leaders to join this dynamic and technical skills-based board.

To maintain a strong and balanced mix of expertise, we welcome candidates with demonstratable specialist skills in one or more of the following areas:

  • Agricultural research strategy
  • Commercialisation
  • Impact and/or Venture capital investment

As a Board Director of AVS you will be required to demonstrate:

  • Proven governance experience,
  • relevant scientific or investment strategy expertise,
  • strong stakeholder relationship management skills (government or public good stakeholders), and
  • broad and insightful business acumen.

You will also embody key personal attributes such as integrity, assertiveness, accountability, exceptional interpersonal skills and creative/lateral thinking.

Directors are appointed to the Board for a term of up to three-years, with eligibility for reappointment, and are expected to actively contribute as a member of the Audit and Risk Committee or board subcommittees. The Board will meet at least 6 times in 2026.

Preferred applicants will be required to provide a Declaration of Private Interest and Diversity information, and will undergo standard probity checks, including a National Criminal Record Check, Australian Securities and Investment Commission register check and Australian Financial Security Authority and National Personal Insolvency Index check.

This is a renumerated director role offering the opportunity to:

  • Influence the commercialisation of leading agricultural research
  • Contribute to Victoria’s economic, social, and environmental prosperity
  • Work with a strategic, skilled and purpose-driven Board
  • Support innovation that delivers real outcomes for farmers and industry

We encourage applications from people of all ages, Aboriginal people, people with disability, people from rural and regional Victoria, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and from lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, gender diverse, intersex and queer people. We will provide adjustments to the recruitment process upon request.

You do not have to disclose any personal information if you do not want to, but it can help us understand how we can support you through the recruitment process and beyond.
