
The Brief
Future Leadership™ partnered with the College to appoint a Principal and Deputy Principal for an independent co-educational school offering education from Prep to Year 12. The school aimed to uphold its commitment to excellence in both academic and co-curricular areas within a supportive environment.
To assist in the appointment of a new Principal, the College engaged Future Leadership™ to search for a successful candidate that effectively reports to the College Board, the Principal was expected to uphold the school’s philosophy while providing strong educational leadership to shape a lasting legacy.
Future Leadership™ was also engaged to lead the search for a Deputy Principal. Reporting to the incoming Principal, the Deputy Principal was responsible for overseeing curriculum development and leading key academic staff to implement strategies for improving student outcomes.
The Process
Future Leadership™, comprising Liz Jones and Liam King, conducted detailed briefing meetings with key representatives of the school. It was determined that the ideal candidate would need to demonstrate a strong cultural fit and possess the necessary presence to engage all stakeholders.
Candidates were expected to be progressive and contemporary in both their personal and professional approach, with a solid understanding of business operations and the qualities of an effective leader. Additionally, they needed the ability to build confidence within the community.
Following an extensive search supported by an online advertising campaign, Future Leadership™ presented a strong long list of candidates. Two rounds of panel interviews were conducted, with the final two candidates preparing a presentation to introduce themselves and discuss a key pillar of the school’s strategic plan.
Future Leadership™ held an additional briefing meeting for the appointment of the Deputy Principal. The ideal candidate was identified as an excellent communicator, an innovative thinker, and a strong educational leader capable of considering the future of education delivery while maintaining contemporary best practices to foster a culture of excellence. Future Leadership™ presented a long list of experienced leaders, with five candidates progressing to panel interviews.
The Outcome
The Selection Panel was highly satisfied with the pool of candidates and proceeded with the appointment of the Principal. Following this appointment, the Principal joined the Selection Committee for the Deputy Principal panel interviews, leading to the selection of a preferred candidate. With over 20 years of educational experience, the chosen Deputy Principal demonstrated dedication, passion, and innovation, along with a strong commitment to building meaningful relationships.
