The Brief
Fisher Leadership held a prior relationship with the organisation and they once again called on the team to support the appointment of an exceptionally talented leader to become its new Chief Executive Officer to drive the strategy of this prestigious medical college.
The College sought an individual who would uphold the College’s record and reputation of being the lead advocate for surgical standards, professionalism and surgical education in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand. lead, manage and build the organisation’s capacity to advocate on behalf of the profession and deliver programs and services that enhance the profession’s standards of excellence.

The Process
To ensure the search team had a comprehensive understanding of the organisational environment and the requirements of the position, a comprehensive briefing workshop was conducted with the Selection Committee.
As a result of this workshop the team were clear the College required an appointee with excellent leadership skills, who would engage and build rapport with its members, and bring a vision for the future. Future Leadership focussed the search phase of the process on high calibre candidates across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand operating in CEO and COO roles in health organisations, education institutions, peak bodies and membership-based organisations. Known referral partners and potential candidates were engaged to build the candidate pool. Online advertising supported the search.
Liz Jones, as the lead consultant, kept the selection committee informed with regular updates. Progress reports and candidate calibration sessions provided the College with an opportunity to review the emerging candidate pool and ensured confidence in the search.

The Outcome
The Future Leadership team facilitated a formal shortlist presentation with the Selection Committee, presenting six highly qualified candidates for review and discussion. The shortlist report incorporated commentary from the Future Leadership Capability Framework psychometric testing completed, in addition to a raft of suggested interview questions based on the assessment outcomes.
Following the first panel interview where the selection committee completed five formal interviews, three candidates progressed to a second-round interview with the Board. During the second round interview the candidates delivered a prepared presentation and engaged in a question and answer session based on their delivery. After full 360 degree referencing, with reports provided to the selection committee, s the successful candidate was confirmed. As a visible leader, the appointee demonstrated their ability to create and set a vision and subsequently cascade the strategy while ensuring broad contribution and engagement
