
Conducting an executive search for an Inaugural Chair and Board Members

The Brief
Future Leadership was approached to complete a comprehensive executive search to identify, attract and appoint five high profile industry leaders drawn from across Australia who were experienced Chairs and Non-Executive Directors and motivated to contribute pro bono on a new Board advising on a range of matters related to the interface with industries generally.
The Future Leadership Consultant team were retained to undertake this assignment over several months, reaching out to leaders across multiple industries, Government and education, and to assist our client in the assessment and selection of a complementary group of Board Members.

The Process
Future Leadership™ assembled a specialised team, led by David Baber, and an experienced research and administration team, to lead the search. Key steps included:
- Targeted Search and Talent Identification: An initial briefing with representatives of the organisation. This search assignment was focusing on proven and respected leaders, contributors to community and society, and recognised prominent non-Executive Directors. Future Leadership’s extensive networks and contacts were drawn on, and up to the minute information on availability and motivation of outstanding Board candidates who are motivated to contribute to specific organisations on a pro bono basis.
- Candidate Assessment: Full behavioural interviews were conducted by the Future Leadership team in order to identify a highly qualified shortlist to present to our client.
- Final Evaluation: Highly qualified candidates were shortlisted, with the selection panel interviewing candidates in panel interviews. Full 360 degree reference checking was completed for the preferred candidates prior to an offer being made. Future Leadership supported panel interviews and supported the appointment negotiation with the preferred candidates.
The Outcome
Future Leadership successfully placed the Inaugural Chair and four Board member placements in July 2020.
