Health Network

The Brief

Based on prior experience appointing CEOs in the health sector, including the CEO of a South Australian health network, Future Leadership was chosen as the preferred search partner to support another health network in appointing a strategic, engaging, and collaborative senior executive to lead the delivery of exceptional health and wellbeing services that enhance the quality of life for the community in a high-growth region of South Australia.

With the network at a critical juncture, facing many challenges and opportunities for change and improvement, the newly appointed Chair sought to partner with a team that would bring expertise in the health sector, combined with a comprehensive and robust process that would mitigate risk for the organisation.

The Process

Partnering with the newly appointed Chair, the Future Leadership team, led by senior consultants, Liz Jones and Sandra Kerr, conducted an initial briefing to obtain a clear view of the operating environment and the desired skills, experience, and competencies of the ideal candidate.

The briefing confirmed it would be critical for the incoming CEO to be a strong communicator who understands that culture is the core of developmental change. With a required focus on clinical governance and improved outcomes, the incoming CEO would demonstrate high-level stakeholder engagement skills, including managing government relationships. A comprehensive search and sourcing campaign was conducted to identify qualified candidates from a national field. The process included behavioural-based interviews aligned with capabilities identified using the Future Leadership Capability Framework, extensive background checks throughout the executive search process (reference checks completed during the process for all shortlisted candidates and additional reference checking on the preferred candidate), as well as social media and qualifications checks.
