Statutory Authority with world leading expertise in forensic medicine and science – leverage the organisation’s significant capability for long term sustainability
The Brief
Future Leadership was engaged by a prominent statutory authority specialising in forensic medicine and scientific services to appoint an inaugural Chief Executive Officer under newly established governance arrangements. The creation of this role followed the enactment of a new legislative framework that strengthened organisational governance, formalised board oversight and embedded training and research as core institutional functions. The appointment came at a pivotal time as the organisation sought to modernise systems, uplift administrative capability and reinforce its reputation as a trusted provider of forensic expertise to the justice system, health sector and broader community.
The organisation delivers essential services across forensic pathology, clinical forensic medicine, scientific analysis and tissue donation, providing critical evidence that supports safe legal outcomes, high‑quality transplantation procedures and public health advancement. With a technically strong workforce and an internationally recognised reputation, the organisation faced significant strategic and operational challenges, including addressing legacy systems, managing budget pressures and strengthening stakeholder relationships across justice, legal, health and academic sectors.
The CEO role required a seasoned executive capable of leading transformation, fostering organisational resilience and positioning the organisation for long‑term sustainability. Key objectives included embedding new governance structures, modernising workforce practices, clarifying executive accountabilities, addressing financial sustainability and strengthening partnerships essential to the organisation’s medico‑legal remit. The successful appointment would need to unite a multi‑disciplinary workforce around a refreshed strategic direction while maintaining trust, accountability and alignment with the organisation’s mission and values.
