Appointing a General Manager for a Regional Private Not For Profit Hospital

Date Posted:3 June 2026

Delivering an Executive Search to strengthen operational performance, culture and growth for a regional private hospital

The Brief

Future Leadership™ was engaged by a large, values based, private not for profit health organisation in regional Queensland to appoint a General Manager for a flagship regional hospital. The hospital is a 96 bed facility with multiple operating theatres, a growing rehabilitation service and a diverse medical and surgical case mix. It is co located with a public hospital and operates within a complex ecosystem that includes shared services, group governance, strong clinician relationships and deep community expectations.

The appointment was critical to stabilising and strengthening executive leadership following a period of change, while positioning the hospital for its next phase of growth. With high occupancy levels, under utilised theatre capacity and longer term expansion under consideration, the role required a leader capable of balancing operational excellence, financial discipline and compassionate, values led care. The organisation sought an executive with the credibility to engage effectively with Visiting Medical Officers, public sector partners and community stakeholders, while also operating confidently within a large not for profit system.

The ideal candidate profile combined senior hospital leadership experience with strong commercial acumen, emotional intelligence and a visible, on site leadership style suited to a regional environment. Alignment with the organisation’s mission, ethical framework and commitment to patient centred care was essential, alongside the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, optimise service mix and build a resilient, engaged workforce.
