The Position

St Vincent’s Health Australia seeks to appoint an exceptional and values‑led executive to the role of Chief Executive Officer – Victorian Private Hospitals. This is a highly influential leadership appointment, responsible for stewarding a major metropolitan private hospital portfolio at a time of significant strategic, cultural and system‑wide transformation.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, Private Hospitals Division, this Victorian private hospitals CEO role carries a strong focus on a cultural, relational and transformation mandate, alongside accountability for operational and financial performance. The CEO will lead four metropolitan hospitals within a highly interdependent precinct‑based ecosystem, closely connected to St Vincent’s Public Hospital Melbourne and the Aitkenhead Centre for Medical Discovery. Success in this role will be defined by the ability to build trust, strengthen alignment and foster shared accountability across the healthcare portfolio, including maturing existing relationships with the public, private, research and community partners.

Central to the role is transformative leadership of the Victorian portfolio’s contribution to the “Bringing Care Home” strategic direction, translating strategy into new and integrated models of care across hospital, precinct, community and at‑home settings. The CEO will drive capability uplift and new ways of working for leaders, clinicians and teams operating across organisational and sector boundaries, while resetting and strengthening culture, cohesion and performance expectations across the portfolio.

This opportunity will appeal to a senior executive healthcare leader, recognised for visible cultural leadership whilst maintaining a strong focus on clarity of accountability and performance expectation. Additionally, a track record of having the credibility and presence to lead people confidently through complexity and change, and the judgement to balance mission, performance and sustainability.

In Victoria, the private hospitals portfolio comprises four metropolitan hospitals:

  • St Vincent’s Private Hospital Fitzroy – ~300 beds
  • St Vincent’s Private Hospital East Melbourne – ~200 beds
  • St Vincent’s Private Hospital Kew – ~55 beds
  • St Vincent’s Private Hospital Werribee – ~60 beds

The portfolio employs approximately 2,100 people (c.1,050 FTE)
