  • Key divisional leadership role of a large major surgical and procedural medicine portfolio within a significant tertiary health service
  • Drive operational performance, culture and system wide service integration of a $300M+ portfolio
  • Shape future focused models of care aligned to Austin Health’s strategy

The Position

Austin Health seeks to appoint an experienced and credible health executive to the role of Divisional Director, Surgery, Anaesthesia and Procedural Medicine. This is a critical senior leadership appointment within a complex tertiary and quaternary health service, responsible for the strategic and operational leadership of one of Austin Health’s most significant clinical portfolios. The Division operates across multiple campuses and encompasses a broad range of high‑acuity elective and emergency surgical services, including transplant, cardiac and complex tertiary care.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer and working closely with the Deputy COO, the Divisional Director will work in close partnership with the Divisional Medical Director to lead all aspects of performance across surgery, anaesthesia and procedural medicine. The role carries accountability for access, activity, quality, safety, workforce and financial performance, while contributing a strong strategic lens to whole‑of‑organisation service planning and delivery.

The Divisional Director will play a central role in stabilising and strengthening leadership capability, embedding clear accountability and supporting teams to deliver safe, high‑quality, patient‑centred care within a demanding operational environment. Aligned to Austin Health’s Strategic Plan, the role will lead service innovation and future‑oriented models of care, strengthen system partnerships and contribute to the organisation’s ambition to deliver the right care, in the right place, at the right time. This opportunity will suit a senior health leader recognised for calm, visible leadership, strong clinical partnerships and the ability to translate strategy into disciplined execution.
