The Brief

Future Leadership was engaged by a specialty medical college comprising more than 1,000 members in public and private health services organisations across Australia, New Zealand and overseas for a Chief Executive Officer.

The then Chief Executive Officer announced their retirement. In the many years they had been in the position they had grown the College in size, scale and influence. In searching for a new Chief Executive, the Board sought a highly capable and credible individual to provide ongoing leadership to achieve the College’s vision. They sought a strong leader with a sound understanding of the specialty medical college sector and familiarity with higher education, health services management and best practice trends in management and leadership within the health services and higher education field.

The Process

Future Leadership led a comprehensive executive search across Australia and New Zealand, focusing on senior leaders operating at Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer level within education, membership‑based and regulated professional organisations, including procedural medical colleges. The search strategy was supported by targeted print and digital advertising to ensure broad market coverage.
Future Leadership partnered closely with the Board and panel throughout the process, supporting the design of the interview agenda and assessment approach, facilitating structured panel interviews, and providing clear synthesis through long and short list reporting. Four candidates progressed to panel interviews.
The engagement also included rigorous due diligence, incorporating detailed reference checking, psychological assessment and qualifications verification, to support informed decision‑making and ensure alignment with the clients governance, regulatory and leadership requirements.
