Conducting an Executive Search for a Chief Marketing Officer to Lead Brand Transformation and Drive Student Recruitment in a Regional Higher Education Institution
The Brief
A prominent international university sought to appoint a Deputy Vice-Chancellor to lead its Southeast Asian campus. The role required a senior academic leader capable of driving innovation, enhancing the student experience, and strengthening regional engagement. The successful candidate would oversee academic standards, corporate strategy, financial performance, and community relations.
The Process
Our team conducted detailed research and mapping across universities, research organisations, and relevant public and private sector entities globally. We engaged with senior professionals across these networks to gather recommendations and encourage applications from high-calibre individuals.
A targeted print and online advertising campaign complemented the search. From a pool of 114 applications, a diverse longlist was developed, including candidates based in Southeast Asia, Australia, North America, Europe, and the Middle East. Five candidates were shortlisted for interview by a panel comprising senior university leaders and an external industry representative.

The appointed candidate brought extensive experience in international academic leadership, having previously held senior roles at a major global university’s overseas campus.
