The Position
St Margaret’s Berwick Grammar seeks an exceptional, future‑focused educational leader to guide the School into its next chapter following the conclusion of Dr Annette Rome’s outstanding leadership as Principal at the end of 2026. The School is in a period defined by excellence in learning, purposeful growth and a deep sense of belonging across its community. In a time of an evolving educational landscape, the Principal will articulate a bold, contemporary vision that honours the School’s rich heritage while continuing to build academic achievement, wellbeing and connection for every student.
Reporting to the School Council and working closely with the Chief Operating Officer, the Principal will provide strategic and inspirational leadership across a multi‑campus environment. The successful candidate will continue to advance academic standards, strengthen the School’s 4A’s – Academics, Athleticism, Artistry and Adventure – and champion a culture of innovation, inclusion and character development. With enrolments projected to grow from 1,000 to 1,500 students, the Principal will lead the School through an exciting expansion, including facility upgrades, enhanced STEM and other curriculum initiatives, and research informed approaches to teaching and learning to prepare students for life at school and beyond.
A visible, confident communicator, the appointee will lead a diverse school community and enhance engagement with students, staff, families, alumni and the broader region. Maintaining a “big school with a small school feel” will be essential to ensuring every student is known, supported and challenged. The Principal will drive organisational renewal through succession planning, developing leadership capabilities, community presence, international engagement and alumni relations.
