The Position
Seymour College seeks to appoint an experienced and highly credible Head of Junior Years to provide strategic and operational leadership across Prep to Year 6, including OSHC and Vacation Care. A member of the College Executive, this role carries primary responsibility for the day‑to‑day leadership of the Junior Years Campus and plays a central role in shaping the educational, pastoral and cultural experience of students, staff and families in the Junior Years.
Reporting to the Principal, the Head of Junior Years oversees teaching and learning, wellbeing, staff leadership, operations, facilities and financial management, and is deeply engaged in the life of the College. Working collaboratively with the Executive and Junior Years leadership team, the role is responsible for building a positive, inclusive and high‑performing learning environment underpinned by clarity, consistency and high professional standards. The Head of Junior Years will work collaboratively with Early Years in relation to transition arrangements as required. A key priority will be the development and articulation of a clear five‑year vision for the Junior Years, aligned to whole‑College strategy.
The successful candidate will be an experienced and highly capable Junior School leader with deep primary education expertise and a strong understanding of contemporary pedagogy for girls’ learning and wellbeing. They will bring a mature, steady and confident leadership presence, with the ability to navigate complexity, build confidence and lead in a community‑rich environment. Comfortable balancing relational leadership with clear accountability, the appointee will demonstrate sound judgement, strong organisational capability and the confidence to lead strategy, people and operations with consistency and purpose. The role requires strong visibility and engagement with staff, students and families, a commitment to developing leadership capability within the team, and the capacity to articulate and lead a compelling long‑term vision for Junior Years. A teaching component forms part of this role.
